We made a wooden hanging shelf for some cactus we bought at Walmart using reclaimed mugs from the Salvation Army Store. The Process: We started by going to our local thrift store and getting a few mugs that we thought would compliment the cacti. We then used a piece of wood we already had which was the right shape and size for this project. We marked the locations where we wanted the mugs to sit making sure they were spaced appropriately to account for the handles. We then created inset locations by using some really large forstner bits. We also drilled locations for the rope to pass through. Once all the holes were drilled, we sanded the entire piece of wood and used some clear spray lacquer to seal up the board (Link below). We then threaded some twisted sisal rope through the side holes so that we could hang then entire project in our desired location. Finally, we replanted the cacti into the mugs and placed them on the board. This was a very simple project that can easily be completed at home.
