Brass Ice Pick | Making a DIRESTA Inspired Ice Pick on a Metal Lathe | My First Lathe Project

We made a brass ice pick inspired by Jimmy Diresta's ice pick. This was made in Trevor Higgins' shop and was my first lathe project. (Link Below) The Process: We started by collecting all the raw materials needed: Brass bar stock, brass tube stock, a brass ring, and some hard steel for the pick. We then cut the stock to length. I used DustySqueak's ice pick as an example for length. We then machined the ice pick on the lathe starting with facing one side. we then flipped the bar end to end and machined the taper. We then knurled about an inch or two to three centimeters to give the pick a grip section. We then prepped the cap. We took the tube stock and filed a divet in the end to accept the brass ring we chose. Using plumbing solder and a torch, we joined both the ring and the tube together. We used a grinder to create a rough point on the steel and then filed the final finish on it. We used super glue to join the point to the base and finished it all off with some abrasive pads and polish to give it a nice finish.
