This isn’t a specs breakdown (okay it might be a little bit.) It’s what actually happened after installing two new Aqara cameras in my home. About This Video

I messed up because I assumed Aqara’s naming meant the G400 was the obvious “next” version of the G410. After installing two new Aqara cameras—one at my front door and one in Connor’s room—I realized the G400 isn’t a successor hub at all. It’s just a doorbell camera. That sounds small, but it changes everything: the microSD card moves into the doorbell itself (good luck ever touching it again), the indoor chime box stops being the brains of the system, and that Aqara security panel device you might see in Apple Home with the G410? It’s gone. The G400 surprised me with a slimmer design, Power over Ethernet, and a vertical 3:4 view that actually fills my phone screen. But it also surprised me in the other direction: no battery option, slightly narrower field of view, and it drops millimeter wave in favor of standard camera-based motion detection. If you’re coming from a G410, this is a lateral move—better or worse depending on what you value. On the indoor side, the G350 is the opposite story: it is a hub, and it’s the first Matter camera on the market—ready for Matter 1.5 cameras, even though Apple Home isn’t ready for cameras in Matter yet. I wanted it as a HomeKit Secure Video baby monitor with cry detection, but Apple Home can’t surface that cry alert the way I want, so it became our toddler cam instead—and honestly, it’s been great.
