Looking for a smart lock for every door that isn't a deadbolt? The Thorbolt Mk1 might be the most overlooked, underrated interior smart lock out there. Today I test it on the perfect door in my home 👀—and break down why HomeKit-over-Thread locks like this one are so unique, reliable, and surprisingly useful. If you're building a smart home with Apple Home, Matter, or Thread (or all three), this video shows where this lock fits… and where it doesn’t. 🔐🚪⚡ 🔗 Referenced Products Thorbolt Mk1 https://amzn.to/47FTSGm Thorbolt X1 https://amzn.to/4oO0I2K Homey Pro https://amzn.to/483bqv2 arre Contact Sensor https://amzn.to/3JV0MOT 🎥 Referenced Videos & Playlists Smart Home Logic Playlist https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLy1syIRjWAVpd9gpCIL1noUH6CH2Gh29n Thread Playlist https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLy1syIRjWAVppja3mkzVIdyBMkJATIxnn ⏱️ Chapters 0:00 – Intro 1:16 – The Perfect Door for This Lock 1:50 – Other Use Cases 2:06 – Installation 2:39 – Homekit Over Thread- NOT Matter 3:44 – Homey Pro Compatibility Issues 4:24 – Dislikes and Likes 5:12 – Fingerprint + Keypad 5:30 – Auto-Lock Behavior 5:47 – Smart Home Logic 6:55 – Contact Sensors & Security 7:10 – Final Thoughts (Wife Approval Included) 7:32 – $80 Price & Outro #smarthome #homekit #thread #matter #smartlock #applehome #thorbolt #smarthometech #hometech #techreview #homeautomation

About This Video

There are no fewer than 483 smart lock options out there (yes, I counted), but almost all of them are deadbolts. What I actually needed was a smart lock for the “other” doors in a house—the latch-only doors you have way more of than deadbolts. In this video I test the Thorbolt MK1, and I land on what I think is the perfect door for it: the interior garage door. We were never great about keeping that door locked because one of our cars uses phone-as-a-key, so this ends up being a very real, very practical upgrade. I walk through installation (it’s basically like any other doorknob), and then I get into why HomeKit-over-Thread locks are such a weird and wonderful category. It’s not Matter, but it does join the same Thread network as my other Apple Home devices, which is a big part of why it’s so consistent. I also cover the tradeoffs: it looks weird, it needs to stay away from moisture, and it’s one of the only devices in my house that’s flat-out incompatible with Homey Pro. But the fingerprint + auto-lock combo makes it feel almost like an analog knob—except it’s essentially always locked—and for about $80, it’s hard not to recommend for the right door.
