Christmas decorations go up the weekend after Thanksgiving—any earlier and it’s confusing. In this video I walk through how I keep a traditional look (bulbs visible, no big light show) while still getting smart control. Inside, the easiest win is still the smart plug: I’ve got hallway lights on an Onvis Matter plug, the mantle garland on a smart plug, and the tree on an Eve Energy. If you want to start “smart Christmas” without buying all new lights, this is the path. Outside is where I finally upgraded the whole tangled-bin / dead-strand / “warm vs cool white” chaos. I didn’t want permanent lights, and I’m not a huge fan of the hidden-by-design lights that just wash the house. I wanted mini lights you actually see—but smarter and more durable. Govee sent me the Christmas String Lights 2 to try (not sponsored), and they ended up being exactly what I was looking for: easier storage on spools, pliable like rope, waterproof, and reliable LEDs. They’re Matter over Wi‑Fi, so I add them to Apple Home and run them with scenes and an outdoor automation (on 30 minutes before sunset, off at midnight).
