💡 Philips Hue wants your smart home — lighting, scenes, sensors, cameras, buttons, and automations. But does the new Hue Bridge Pro actually deserve to be the brain of it all? In this video, I break down what the Bridge Pro is, what it isn’t, and how Philips Hue fits into a modern smart home built around Matter, Thread, Apple Home, and Homey Pro. We’ll talk about when you should skip the bridge entirely, when Zigbee still makes sense, why scenes are Hue’s real superpower, and how I actually run Hue in my own home alongside non-Hue devices. Some great features. Some expected features. And… some other stuff. About This Video

Philips Hue wants your smart home top to bottom—lights, scenes, sensors, buttons, cameras, security, the whole deal. In this video I walk through what the new Hue Bridge Pro is and (more importantly) what it isn’t. It’s not a Matter controller and it’s not a Thread border router, and that’s kind of the entire point: if Hue wanted to be the “brain” of my smart home, they would’ve checked those boxes. They didn’t, so I’m not building a Hue-only house—even though I genuinely think their products are great. I break down the two paths: (1) no-bridge Hue using the new Matter over Thread bulbs (awesome if you already have a HomePod/HomePod mini or Ethernet Apple TV 4K), and (2) classic Hue with Zigbee + the bridge, which is still a very sensible way to keep dozens (or 150) bulbs off your Wi‑Fi and unlock Hue’s best features. Hue’s real superpower is scenes inside the Hue app—fast to preview, easy to build—and then exporting those scenes into Apple Home so Siri and non-Hue devices can join the party. Finally, I show how I actually run Hue: Hue Bridge Pro integrated into Apple Home and Homey Pro. I let Hue “own” the scenes, Apple Home handle voice/app control, and Homey run the heavy automation logic, sensors, and buttons—because button latency in Apple Home is real. I also cover MotionAware Areas, sync features, and the Bridge Pro quirks I’m seeing after migrating.
