This video is my “Opus”… and if I’m being honest, it’s kind of eh — but it’s also a real, working foundation for a mostly native Apple Home security system. After five years on Ring (and a bunch of Homebridge/HOOBS-style band-aids), I wanted the devices and logic to live inside Apple Home for flexibility: Thread sensors on my existing Thread network, fewer separate hubs/networks, and the freedom to pick whatever brands actually make sense. My V1 build starts with the Aqara G410 doorbell for one reason that matters: it exposes the security states (Home/Away/Night/Off) to Apple Home. From there, I build the “security system” with Apple Home scenes and automations — including sound-only scenes via the indoor chime (door chime, arming/disarming, delay, alarm). Apple Home alone is limited for multi-trigger automations, so I use Controller for HomeKit to combine a bunch of sensors into clean logic. It’s not rock solid yet. The alarm sound (Aqara’s built-in tones) is reliable, but my custom MP3 sounds are inconsistent, which is the biggest question mark for V2. I also show how I’m handling visual status with an Inovelli LED bar and local control with an Onvis scene controller, plus where HomeKit Secure Video fits if you’re trying to ditch camera subscriptions.
