About This Video

In this video I’m taking you with me for my first-ever microneedling/dermapen session at a clinic, because I’m trying to improve my acne scars and hyperpigmentation. I show my “before” (dated 29 Feb 2024), then I’m in the aesthetician’s chair while she explains the dermapen depth is adjusted based on your skin and the area being treated. I’ll be honest: I was nervous, but the pain was not crazy for me—about a 3 to 3.5 out of 10—and the sheet mask part was literally my favorite because it was so cooling and soothing. After the treatment, I share the aftercare I was given: no washing my face for 24 hours, no training/sweating, and no active ingredients for a week—just keep it minimal with a simple cleanser and sunscreen. By day 7 my skin felt really dry, so I leaned on richer moisturizers and extra hydration (and yes, I popped some whiteheads even though you’re not supposed to). Then week 2/3 is where it went left: I had a crazy breakout, mostly on one cheek, and it genuinely upset me because I’m already acne-prone and I’m terrified of new hyperpigmentation. My takeaway is that microneedling is not an overnight fix, and for acne-prone skin you really have to be prepared for the possibility of purging/breakouts and the emotional rollercoaster that can come with it.
