About This Video

In this video I’m talking about self-development books and the whole stigma around them — that they’re repetitive, unrealistic, or “don’t do anything.” I’ve had this conversation with friends, family, and even strangers, and I get why people feel skeptical. But for me, self-help books are the same as therapy in one key way: they don’t “fix” you. They help you see the strength within yourself, get insight into who you are, and remind you that you’re not defined by what happened to you — you’re defined by how you deal with it. I also share a few books from my shelf that I genuinely think can change someone in one or two ways (and that’s the point). You don’t need to remember every chapter — just take one, two, three lessons that actually fit you. I go through why I recommend The Four Agreements for mindset basics, Difficult Conversations for communication, and why Attachment is useful but also annoying (yes, I said it) because it takes too long to get to the “meat.” I also talk about Think Like a Monk and why sometimes you have to focus on the message in the book, not every opinion you have about the author. My main takeaway: read self-development books with a pinch of salt, and pick what works for you.
