About This Video

In this video, I review Micro Habits: Tiny Changes That Supercharge High Performance by Jack Humphrey and Demian Hugs (and yes, it literally came out last week, so I’m fresh off reading it). I go through what the book is trying to do, what I actually learned, and how you could apply the ideas—if you decide to pick it up. It instantly reminded me of Atomic Habits because it leans on the idea that small habits stack into big results, and the intro hits with “how you do anything is how you do everything,” which really made me reflect on my own timekeeping and how being nonchalant shows up in other areas of my life. I also talk about a few concepts I genuinely liked: micro habits being small, simple, and speedy; motivation (job vs career vs calling); extrinsic vs intrinsic motivation; delayed gratification; and the importance of purpose—especially the line that if you’re depressed, you’re not weak or crazy, you’re human with unmet needs. But I’m going to be honest: I rated this book 2.5 stars. Most chapters feel like summaries of their High Performance podcast interviews with celebrities, and I kept thinking, “Where are the micro habits?” If you want my blunt take, I’d rather listen to the podcast than read the book, because the book doesn’t really tie the “habit” part together in a clear, practical way.
