About This Video

Well, hello my fellow adventurers—this video is me easing back in after a hard month. My dad passed, we traveled back to Oklahoma, and I even got sick (so y’all, thank you for the grace about my voice). In this first Lent journaling video, I walk you through how I’m setting up my Bible journaling and planning around the Orthodox church calendar as we prepare for Pascha (Easter). I flip through my planner/journal, show the updates I’ve decorated since the last video, and explain how I’m using scripture readings and notes so I can come back later and reflect. I also share the Sundays that lead us into Great Lent—Publican and Pharisee, Prodigal Son, Meatfare, and Cheesefare (with the Rite of Mutual Forgiveness, which is honestly my favorite Sunday). I talk about fasting in a realistic way for my situation (I’ve been no-meat since 2010, I’m gluten-free, and I switched from vegan to vegetarian because of osteoporosis), so my “fast” includes things like no TV except YouTube, no sweets/overeating, and being painfully generous. Then I show how I’m prepping March with lots of purple (repentance season for us), using washi, scrapbook paper, bulletin cutouts, and my beloved Prismacolor pencils—plus a quick hello from my new little buddy, Chickpea.
