In this video, I’m taking you through a typical daily guinea pig routine from morning to night with my little crew. I have two piggies (Wrangler, my 4-year-old neutered male, and Dip, who’s 3), and my mom has two females (Panda and Sienna, both around 5). The first thing I do every morning is check on everyone, and then it’s straight into spot cleaning—because my piggies know the rules: cleaning comes first before feeding. Overnight their cage always looks like they threw a wild party, so I pull things out, sweep up hay/toys/poops, and reset everything. Once it’s clean, I do pellets (1/8 cup per piggy per day) and I like using snuffle mats or puzzle toys to make it more fun. Then I top off fresh orchard grass hay from Oxbow, which is about 80% of their diet, and I keep it cleaner with hay bags plus loose piles since mine will absolutely pee on hay left on the floor. After the morning chaos (and some very cute popcorns and zoomies), they nap—guinea pigs are crepuscular, so they’re most active at dawn and dusk. In the afternoon, it’s veggie time (romaine, bell pepper, cucumber, plus a little carrot and red cabbage), and if the weather’s nice I’ll do some outside time. I also keep an eye on temperature—this day hit almost 80°, so I closed the window and turned on the AC. At night, we do lap time, then I tuck them back in and call it a night.
