About This Video

Summer can either disappear in a blur, or it can quietly set you up for a much calmer, more effective academic year. In this video I break down how I’d spend summer as a productive student without burning out, based on what I actually did at university—and what I really wish I’d done. The core idea is simple: I’m not trying to “grind” for three months straight. I’m trying to use summer to build a better baseline so term time feels lighter. I structure it around five themes: build, upskill, prepare, explore, and recover. “Build” is about putting a few simple habits and systems in place that make focused work easier. “Upskill” is choosing one or two high-leverage skills to improve (without turning it into a second full-time job). “Prepare” is doing small bits of future-you admin—so you’re not scrambling when term starts. “Explore” is leaning into curiosity, reading, and experiences that widen your perspective (and often clarify what you actually want). And “Recover” is non-negotiable: sleep, downtime, and proper rest, because productivity science is pretty clear—if you don’t recover, you don’t perform.
