Record Store Day 2024 was honestly the craziest one I’ve ever done, and I’ve been going since around 2016/2017. This year I had one “I have to have it” item that was super limited, so last minute we decided to camp out at my local record store. It was my first time doing that, it was freezing, and I fully understand why people think camping out for Record Store Day sounds insane… because I used to be that person too. But it ended up being worth it. The #1 thing on my list was The Beatles 3-inch mini turntable. A couple days before, my store told me they only got two in, so we showed up around 9:00 p.m. the night before and ended up sixth/seventh in line for an 8:00 a.m. open. I know a lot of people think the release is ridiculous (and I get it), but that’s exactly why I needed it—and I’m especially glad I got one with resellers trying to flip them for crazy money. I also grabbed the John Lennon Mind Games EP on glow-in-the-dark vinyl (my first glow-in-the-dark record), because Mind Games is one of my favorite John Lennon songs and it has me hyped for the Mind Games box set later this year. Then I made two last-minute psych rock pickups—Gandalf (1969) and SRC (1968)—after streaming them and realizing I actually loved what I heard.
