In this video, I’m doing something I haven’t done in a couple years—an actual record shopping vlog. Before I head out to the shops, I show you a few records that just came in the mail. Craft Recordings sent me Norman Greenbaum’s “Spirit in the Sky,” and I have to admit I went through a phase with that song after discovering the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack (I’ve never even seen the movie, but the soundtrack has some seriously awesome songs). The pressing is on this really pretty blue marbled vinyl, which I love. I also unbox a package from Sunday’s Music, one of my favorite labels, and talk about why I’m such a fan (their Michael Nesmith Red, White, and Blue Trilogy is genuinely one of my favorite things in my collection). They sent “Having a Good Time” by The Clinger Sisters—an album I can’t believe I’d never heard of because it’s really good—and I especially enjoyed their cover of “Good Day Sunshine” by The Beatles. I also picked up “The Gordian Knot,” which I haven’t listened to yet, but the “soft, trippy” Association comparison has me optimistic. Then we hit two record stores, and I come home with one score: The Mamas & The Papas “Deliver,” a $6 mono copy I’ve been hunting for. It has “Dedicated to the One I Love,” one of my all-time favorite Mamas & Papas songs, so I’m thrilled to finally have it on vinyl.
