In this unboxing, I’m cracking open the John Lennon & Yoko Ono “Power to the People” Deluxe CD box set, and I wanted to start by being totally transparent: I’m very thankful I was sent this release early, but I was not told what to say or how to feel. I’ve been making Beatles content since I was 13 or 14 (I’m 27 now), so it’s always an honor when labels/estates recognize what I do—but my opinions are still my own. I also read a note from Sean Ono Lennon that really stuck with me about how John was never the same from one year to the next and was always evolving. Then I get into the actual set: it’s a big Ultimate Collection-style box with a lenticular cover (John one way, Yoko the other), and it includes 9 CDs, 3 Blu-rays, a huge book, and extras. The core focus is the One to One concert at Madison Square Garden in 1972 (with discs split between a combined “best of,” the afternoon show, and the evening show), plus a ton of New York City-era material—like Ultimate mixes, Evolution mixes, studio jams, Elements mixes, live jams, and a massive home jams disc. I also show the poster, replica tickets/backstage pass-style pieces, postcards, sticker sheets, and a few standout pages from the 204-page book.
