Here’s the breakdown: Surprise (a quick, specific “wow” moment from class), Highlight (what your student did well), Advise (one clear next-step to improve), Praise (encouragement that feels genuine), and Engage. Engage is where a lot of teachers miss an opportunity, so I teach it in three parts: Thank the parent, Preview what you’ll do next time, and Ask a simple question to invite a reply.
