Apple stuff isn’t something I usually cover on KitGuruTech, but the MacBook Neo caught my eye because it’s Apple’s cheapest ever MacBook. In this video I break down what you actually get for the money: £599 for the 256GB model in the UK (or £499 with education discount), an A18 Pro (last-gen iPhone chip), 8GB of RAM, and a surprisingly premium aluminium chassis. I also go over the basics people care about day-to-day—keyboard and trackpad quality (both really good), the 1080p webcam and mic (fine, nothing special), and the side-firing speakers which I think sound pretty dang good for what they are. As a monitor reviewer, I spent proper time on the display using Calman Ultimate. Brightness hit 516 nits, contrast is just over 1100:1, and while gamut isn’t super wide, it’s nicely clamped to sRGB with solid factory accuracy and good uniformity—so for the target audience, it’s a fantastic screen. Performance-wise, for general use it’s absolutely rapid, and even in Final Cut Pro it held up better than I expected, though you can overwhelm 8GB if you do something silly like 80 Chrome tabs. I also test gaming (Cyberpunk is rough but better than expected; older titles are playable), thermals (low 40s on the keyboard area), WiFi 6E, and battery life, before wrapping up with who this laptop is actually for—and why I’d recommend it over similarly priced Windows machines.
