All right guys, Dominic here for KitGuru, and in this video I’m testing Gigabyte’s AORUS FO27Q5P – a 27in 1440p monitor using Samsung’s enhanced 3rd Gen QD-OLED panel, but with one headline spec: 500Hz. I break down what’s actually changed versus the earlier 360Hz versions (higher refresh, higher overall brightness, True Black 500 certification), then go over the design, stand ergonomics and the frankly excellent I/O selection – including full-bandwidth DisplayPort 2.1 (UHBR20), plus USB-C with DP Alt Mode (though only 18W power delivery). I also cover the usual QD-OLED talking points: raised blacks in brighter rooms due to the lack of a polariser, potential text fringing from the subpixel layout at 1440p, and burn-in mitigation (with OLED care features and a 3-year warranty). In my measurements, full-screen SDR brightness hits 317 nits with very solid uniformity and wide gamut coverage, but factory calibration is a mixed bag thanks to a warm white balance. You can fix it manually in the standard modes, but it’s a pain that the sRGB mode can’t use that manual colour balance. For gaming, OLED is still just so good: near-instant response times and pristine motion clarity at 500Hz, with optional BFI (Ultra Clear) giving similar clarity at 250Hz, albeit with capped brightness and no adaptive sync. HDR performance is flexible too, with accurate True Black-style HDR, a Peak 1000 mode for small highlights, and an overbright HDR Game mode that I actually preferred subjectively. Overall, it’s not perfect, but at around £600 I do think it’s worth buying if you specifically want a fast OLED and can live with the warm default tuning.
