Intel invited KitGuru to discuss the new Core Ultra 200S Plus processors, but this quickly turned into a much broader conversation about performance, pricing, software optimisation and the future of Intel’s desktop gaming strategy. In this interview, Leo Waldock speaks directly with Robert Hallock and Intel’s technical team about what went wrong with Arrow Lake, what has changed with the new 'Plus' processors, and how Intel plans to compete moving forward. Intel openly discuss driver issues, software optimisation, gaming performance versus AMD, CU-DIMM memory, and their approach to rebuilding enthusiast mindshare. Most notably, they admit that progress will take time - but also claim they are working towards a return to the 'good old days'. What you’ll hear in this video: • Intel Platform Performance Package explained • Binary optimisation and how it works • Gaming performance vs AMD’s X3D CPUs • CU-DIMM memory - mainstream or niche? • Power modes and latency issues • Intel’s roadmap and Nova Lake discussion • Intel’s response to losing enthusiast mindshare • Future plans for gaming CPUs and software optimisation 00:00 Intro 01:06 What is the connection? 09:49 AMD Gaming Edge? 12:09 CUDIMM / 4 Rank, legitimate mainstream technology? 18:30 Power Modes 20:33 Novalake and the plan going forward 22:28 Intel want to say a few things 24:00 AMD market share in enthusiast sector 25:40 Intel respond to Leo’s question 27:31 Gaming systems, Intel’s hope for future We never offer affiliate links or take percentages of product sales. About This Video

In this video I jump on a Teams call with Intel’s Robert Hallock and the desktop technical team while I’m in the middle of testing the Core Ultra 200S Plus parts (Ultra 5 250K Plus and Ultra 7 270K Plus). What started as “a chat about Plus” quickly turns into Intel explaining what went wrong with Arrow Lake’s launch experience—specifically the messy, fragmented driver/software delivery that meant reviewers and early buyers weren’t always seeing the performance Intel was getting in the lab. The big headline is Intel’s new “Platform Performance Package”: a unified download that rolls APO (Application Optimization) together with a new “binary optimization” system. APO is about thread scheduling and prioritisation (Intel claim 5–10% in supported games), while binary optimisation is more aggressive—Intel say it can swap suboptimal code paths in .exe/DLLs on the fly by reordering machine code to better suit their front-end. They also admit Arrow Lake’s latency weirdness was largely software/Windows power plan delivery (OSPM) arriving late, causing poor scheduling and core parking decisions. We also get into gaming performance vs AMD’s X3D chips, CU-DIMM (including why higher-speed DDR5 is “supposed” to be CU-DIMM per JEDEC), and—most notably—Intel openly saying they’re “resetting the roadmap” to rebuild enthusiast mindshare. They want the “good old days” back, but they’re clear it’s going to take time.
