In this video I’m testing Jiren’s newest nerf, specifically the i-frames on his side dodge heavy. Pre-patch, you could rely on that dodge attack to bail you out of situations you honestly shouldn’t be escaping, but now it feels way more fair. You’ll see me actively trying to feel out what still works, what doesn’t, and where I’m messing up—because I definitely caught myself relying on the old i-frames and getting punished for it. I run into a salty Berserker (rep 90) who I could tell was getting heated, plus a mirror match where Jiren’s animations and dodge attack just feel less wonky overall. I also talk through my own issues with Jiren—my neutral is bad right now—so I start adjusting by using regular zone more to enter chain, then setting up the unblockable zone for big damage once they’re looking for it. Later, I fight a really solid Highlander and a cracked Shaolin, and I’m straight up about the mistakes: hesitation on parries, not committing to reads, and when I should’ve just mashed light or gone to chain bash. Every duel isn’t perfect, but the takeaway is clear: the nerf forces cleaner decisions, and I’ve got to tighten up my neutral and conversions.
