About This Video

In this video I’m trying bantu knots on my natural hair for the first time, and I’m not gonna lie—I was excited but also nervous because my hair is really long. I started on freshly washed hair with leave-in already in and my hair detangled, because I personally find it way easier to style when it’s damp/wet. I’ve seen people do bantu knots on blown-out hair, but I wanted to see how it would turn out on wet hair first. My parts were definitely giving “best I can do,” but I sectioned my hair into three main sections and did different sizes: two knots in the back, four in the middle area, and then six smaller ones at the top/front. While I was doing them, my camera died and my hair started drying, so I had to re-wet with water and twist as tight as possible so the curls would come out defined and so the knots wouldn’t unravel while I slept. Sleeping in them was a whole task—my head was hurting because I did them so tight, and I genuinely didn’t know how to lay down comfortably. The next morning, I took them down and some pieces were super cute, curly, and bouncy… but overall my hair was still wet from the products, so the final look didn’t come out how I wanted. My biggest takeaway: I’d try bantu knots again, but I’d leave them in for a few days until my hair is fully dry—especially since the smaller, drier knots gave the best results.
