In this video, I'll be showing you exactly how I refresh my straightened hair to make it last another week. This includes my scalp care and all the products I used. About This Video

In this video I’m showing you exactly how I refresh my 3-week-old silk press so I can stretch my straight hair to 3–4 weeks without my scalp turning into a whole snow fest. I only straighten my hair once a year (if I’m lucky, twice), so when it’s that time, I’m always excited to see my length and I try my best to preserve it for as long as possible. The biggest thing that stops me from wearing it longer is my scalp—after about a week and a half, I usually get itchy and flaky if I don’t refresh it. I start by detangling, then I go in with Dove dry shampoo to help soak up all the oil that builds up over weeks. After rubbing it in (and making sure it’s not in my eyes), I follow up with Dove dry conditioner because it helps with that white cast and makes my scalp feel better. Then I use a rat tail comb to part tiny sections so I can actually examine my scalp, scrape out the dryness/dead skin, and focus on any itchy spots. To keep my dry scalp under control, I apply Mielle Rosemary Mint Oil (tea tree is my best friend during a silk press) and massage it in—my scalp feels so good after that minty feeling. Then I section my hair, spray CHI heat protectant, and flat iron in small sections to get everything smooth and silky again, especially around the face-framing pieces (they scare me every time).
