About This Video

In this video I’m showing you exactly how I use a grape slicer (it also works as a cherry tomato cutter) to make grapes safer for kids. I grabbed mine off Amazon, and it’s become one of those simple little tools that makes a big difference—especially if you’re packing lunches like I do over on my other channel, Realistic Lunchbox, and on my Instagram where I share a lot of food content. Choking is a real hazard for young children, and the recommendation is to cut grapes and cherry tomatoes until about age seven. With this slicer, you just drop the grape into the opening, keep it centered, and press straight down. It slices the grape vertically into long strips (basically four even pieces), which helps prevent it from getting lodged and blocking the airway. I also show a couple angles so you can see how fast it goes and why lining it up in the middle matters. And yes—my daughter is older than seven, but I still cut her grapes because it gives me peace of mind. People can have their opinions, but for me it’s about safety, and this makes it quick and easy to do.
