In this Walmart how-to, I’m walking you through exactly how to edit your Walmart substitution preferences in the Walmart app for curbside pickup (or delivery) in 2024. I start right where most of us are—after I’ve already added everything to my cart—then I click the cart in the top right, review my items, and hit “Continue to checkout.” From there, you’ll see options like bringing your own reusable bags, and then the section you actually want: “Item details” with the “Choose substitution preferences” button. Once you’re in substitution preferences, you can toggle substitutions on or off for the entire order (blue means on, white means off). What I really like is you can also set substitutions per item, which is super helpful if there are certain things you don’t want swapped. For each item, you can stick with the default “Replace with best match” (that’s what I typically do), choose “Replace with” and search for a specific item, or select “Do not replace.” I also show how Walmart flags low-stock items so you can update your substitution choices before you place your order.
