About This Video

In this video I put $135 Cerakey V2 ceramic keycaps up against a regular $20 set of PBT plastic keycaps (I used these Matcha caps) to answer the real question: are ceramic keycaps actually worth it? I go over what you’re getting with Cerakey V2—different colorways, with or without legends, Cherry profile, and the V2 change where the outside is ceramic but the inside is ABS so they stay on the stems better. I also talk about the RGB situation: light can shine through a bit because they’re kind of translucent, but don’t expect anything super bright. I did sound tests for both, and honestly, I don’t hear some huge difference. A lot of people claim ceramic adds “thock,” but to me they’re pretty similar—so I let you listen and decide. The ceramic set does have a couple unique pros though: they’re always cool to the touch (which helps if your fingers sweat), and they have this premium shine/sparkle that plastic doesn’t really do unless it gets gross and greasy. My biggest issue was usability: my blank set had no legends and they also don’t have the normal F and J bumps, so typing without looking was rough. And on my Tofu65, the ceramic caps made a terrible sound hitting the case edge, so I had to move them to my Drop Control. My final take: ceramic is cool and premium, but for the price, PBT plastic keycaps are still the best value for most people.
