The ripples on the lake were intense, there was a boat cutting through, and I moved up the road a bit so I could get the full reflection across the water (limited parking out there, so you work with what you’ve got). While I’m waiting for the sun to crest the hill, I talk through the practical stuff: I started around 1/20s and then bumped shutter speed as the light came up so my histogram wouldn’t get blown out. Because the Chinon isn’t communicating with the Canon body, I remind you to use a manual lens profile in editing (I’ll grab something close, like a Pentax 55mm profile, to help with distortion). I also share a couple “don’t be foolish” safety notes—don’t look through the viewfinder at the sun—and why I use the 2-second timer to avoid vibration when I don’t have my remote trigger with me.
