About This Video

In this short one, I’m out in Cambria with my wife, and while she’s in a store I’m just standing outside watching the last butterflies of the season working a little patch of flowers. I didn’t plan it, I didn’t “set up” for it—I just saw the moment and went for it. I walked my phone (my Samsung S25) right up over them and grabbed both photos and video, because sometimes that’s the whole point: be there, notice it, and capture what you can with what you’ve got. What I love about this kind of shoot is it reminds me why I’m so into all of it—vintage lenses, wildlife, entry-level gear, whatever’s in my hand that day. The takeaway is simple: don’t wait for perfect conditions or the “right” season. If the light is good, the subject is there, and you’re present, you can come home with something absolutely stunning. And on a personal note, this little adventure meant the world to me—if you’ve been following along, you know my wife was in the hospital for three and a half months, so being out together like this is huge.
