About This Video

This episode of Man Sht Monday was basically peak “backwoods gear testing and general dude sht.” We started off comparing my usual emergency bag mindset (my last one was like 25-26 lbs with water) to Jason’s ultralight setup built around a Helikon-Tex butt pack/H-harness rig. We weighed it with water and it came in at 10.4 lbs, and I’ll give it to him—he still had the important stuff covered: water (Nalgene + GRAYL Titanium), fire, light redundancy, meds, cordage, a Silky, a hammock, poncho/tarp, and the little details that matter when it’s hot as balls and the bugs are trying to carry you away. Then we did what we always do—ate like kings and messed around outside. We cooked over the fire, talked hammocks (including a budget OneTigris option vs. higher-end stuff like War Bonnet), and then went pond fishing way back in the woods. The pond was loaded—Jason was catching largemouth like every cast, and I was over here catching pond weed until I swapped colors. The big experiment was baking campfire bread in a Pathfinder large bush pot “oven” setup. Wind made it take longer and we had to improvise and flip it, but the end result was crunchy outside, soft inside, and stupid good with honey butter.
