Today I sit down with good friend and fellow Sydney photographer Houman Katoozi for a quick impromptu interview. Houman has done so much for the local street photography scene so as a fellow youtuber, it's only natural I put him in front of the camera for a change. About This Video

I’m down at Pillar Cafe in Balwood with my good mate (and fellow Sydney street photographer) Houman Katoozi for a proper coffee-and-cameras chat. It’s a bit of a role reversal because Houman’s usually the one behind the camera interviewing everyone else—so I put him on the spot for once. We’re also sitting right in front of his prints on the cafe wall, and we talk about what it actually feels like to see your work printed big, out in the world, with people hanging around and talking about it. For Houman, the community side of it is the best part. We get into the real stuff too: juggling photography with work, family life, and another kid on the way, and how he still finds those little 5–10 minute pockets to shoot (or at least stay connected to the craft). Houman breaks down how he went from landscapes into street, why he started recording conversations as YouTube interviews, and how meeting photographers through Instagram turned into shooting episodes overseas. Gear-wise, we cover his current setup—Leica M11 Monochrom, mostly a 50mm—and why he’s committed to black and white: light and shadow, less distraction, and more focus on story. We finish on what’s next for him, including a bigger group exhibition and a new body of work he’s calling “Sydney in Motion.”
