About This Video

Honestly, this is the best compact VND filter system I’ve ever used, and in this video I break down why the Freewell Real Locking Hybrid VND/CPL feels almost perfect. Freewell’s been in the filter game for a hot minute, and I’ve watched them keep optimizing their systems—from the magnetic VND kits to the K2 kit and a bunch of side quests like the polarizing Mist VND combo hood for the X100. This time they sent me the “all day kit” (base ring, VND 3–7/CPL base, ND32, caps) plus a 1/4 strength glow mist that’s now called Snow Mist. The big headline is the locking mechanism. Magnetic systems are convenient, but I’ve always hated how easily filters can detach in a bag or when you bump them around—especially when I’m traveling and constantly pulling gear in and out. With this one, you press the tabs, align, release, and it’s locked in. I can stack the ND32 for 8–10 stops, add the mist, cap it, and it’s not going anywhere—only I decide when something comes off. I also talk about real-world image results (Freewell’s “true color” claim, color shift minimization, and how the Snow Mist blooms highlights for a softer, cinematic look). And I keep it real on the drawbacks: be careful seating the tabs, the CPL adjustment is a bit fiddly/awkward, and I wish the front cap was more rigid. Still, for outdoor shooters and street creators, that locked-in security is a lifesaver.
