This week’s EquiTheory episode is the update I never wanted to have to make: we lost Reina. I’m talking through what happened over the weekend, because if you’ve been following Rory and Reina’s story, you deserved to know—even though it was genuinely one awful thing after the other and it was really hard to sit down and say out loud. There isn’t a training topic or a tack review that felt appropriate to “pivot” to, because this was the reality in front of us. I also want to be really clear about the headspace we were in: if we had known what was ahead of us, we never would’ve made the decision we did a few weeks ago. Hindsight is brutal like that, and the whole situation was beyond heartbreaking and awful to deal with. My biggest takeaway is just a reminder that barn life can turn on a dime, and sometimes the only thing you can do is share the honest update, ask people to be kind, and let a good mare be remembered well.
