About This Video

In this barn vlog, I’m taking you along for an OTTB’s first ride since racing—aka the kind of day where I’m equal parts excited and very intentionally boring. I walk through how I think about that first sit: keeping the whole setup simple, stacking the odds in our favor, and focusing on relaxation and clarity over “getting something done.” If you’ve ever brought a track horse along (or you’re about to), you’ll recognize the vibe: lots of checking in, lots of feel, and a whole lot of listening. I also chat through some of the tack I’m using and why, because with a fresh restart horse I’m picky about comfort and support—both for them and for me. The big takeaway is that the first ride isn’t the time to test limits; it’s the time to build confidence, establish basics, and end on a good note. I’m sharing the honest, normal barn-life pieces too—because that’s real training: consistency, good decisions, and showing up again tomorrow.
