In this video, I sat down live with Jochen to do what I wish more of us could do more often: slow down and have an actual conversation about saddle fit instead of just chasing a quick “does it fit, yes or no?” answer. We covered the big-picture basics—what saddle fit is trying to accomplish for the horse and rider, why it’s not a one-time checklist, and how so many training “issues” can be made worse (or even caused) by discomfort and restriction through the back. This is very much an introduction, but we still got into a lot: how to think about the horse’s changing body, why balance and stability matter just as much as clearance, and why good saddle fit is a moving target as your horse gains muscle or changes shape.
