The surge in working-from-home employees brought with it a new comfortability with the concept of low-quality videos. Zoom calls were sometimes bombed by kids engaging in virtual learning sessions, pets have become new additions to company team meetings, and a sense of “we’re all human and in this together” washed over companies. With that shift came an influx of videos taken from inside of our homes. Don’t expect that to go away in 2021. Instead, expect companies to lean in and use this to their benefit. We’ll see companies embrace their individuals as their influencers. People want to know what a company stands for—and there’s no better way than through its employees. So, 2021 will be the year of videos encompassing the personalities within the company in a less formal format, across social media platforms. These will be no suit-and-tie production quality clips. But even mainstream TV and late night talk shows have been filmed from home, so people realize it’s not necessary to be refined and scripted anymore. Instead it adds a personal touch and human factor to a company. Whether this is your company’s IT person educating us about security threats to be on the lookout for, your company’s content director talking about upcoming themes of importance, or your CEO sharing a message about the company’s mission or recent accomplishment, these videos aren’t going anywhere so get your phone out and start filming.
