In this tutorial I show you how to take a WordPress site, convert it into a static website, and host it for free on GitHub Pages—then run it on your own custom domain with SSL at no extra cost. I’m using the Simply Static plugin to generate the static files, and I walk through both the free version (ZIP export) and the Pro version (direct GitHub deployment). I also cover the key setting to watch—relative paths—so your URLs work properly depending on whether WordPress is at the root domain or in a subfolder. On the GitHub side, I create a repo, generate a Personal Access Token, connect it inside Simply Static Pro, and push the static build straight to GitHub. Then I configure GitHub Pages, add a custom domain, and point the required A records in DNS (plus a www CNAME back to the root, which is how I usually do it). Once DNS and the TLS cert finish provisioning, you can enforce HTTPS and your static site is live. The big takeaway: for simple sites and blogs, this is a really clean workflow with performance and cost benefits—my static version scored higher in PageSpeed compared to the WordPress dev copy. If you need forms or fast incremental updates, Pro is worth it; otherwise the free ZIP method works, it just takes longer to re-upload changes.
