Parts Store Sold Me a USED ‘New’ Part… Then Refused to Help

In this video, I walk you through a frustrating parts store nightmare that cost me time, money, and a lot of patience. I ordered a part through my local parts store and had to wait four days for it to arrive—only to find out they gave me the wrong part. After re-ordering the correct one and waiting another four days, I finally pulled my truck into the shop to install it… and that’s when things got even worse. Once I opened the box, it was obvious that the “new” part had already been installed before—scratches, marks, and signs of prior use everywhere. Instead of getting a brand-new part, I was handed a used one. I called the store to explain the situation and asked if they could at least offer a discount since this clearly wasn’t new. Their response? No discount, no apology—just “bring it back and wait another five days for a replacement.” In this video, I show you exactly what happened, how I figured out the part was used, and why this kind of experience is so frustrating for DIYers and professional techs alike. Let me know in the comments if you’ve dealt with something like this before!

About This Video

Like a lot of you guys out there, I’ve had my share of parts store frustration, and this one was bad enough I wanted to share it. I ordered a transfer case motor for a Dodge Ram 1500 and waited three or four days for it to show up—only to find out it was the wrong part because the connector was different. So I went back, re-ordered the correct one, waited another three or four days, finally pulled the truck into the shop to install it…and when I opened the box, it was obvious the “new” part had already been installed. Scratches, marks, signs of prior use—this thing was definitely previously installed. I called the store to ask if there were any warranty ramifications and if they could at least offer a discount since they were selling me a used part at full retail price. They refused—no discount, and the only option was to bring it back and wait another three or four days again. At that point I’m already a little pissed because I’ve waited 13–14 days trying to get this truck fixed. After I mentioned going to corporate, suddenly they called back saying they could have a brand-new one in an hour. Now I’m left weighing the risk: do I trust them again, or install the used one and cross my fingers with the 2-year warranty?
