I Put Milwaukee’s Subcompact Impacts to Work… Here’s What Happened

In this video, I put the Milwaukee Subcompact Impact lineup to work in real-world mechanic situations — no spec sheets, no fluff… just results. I’m using both the 1/4” and 3/8” drive subcompact impacts to tackle a variety of jobs around the shop, from tight interior work to engine bay fasteners and even pushing them a little beyond what they’re designed for. The goal? 👉 See where these tools actually shine 👉 Find their limits 👉 And figure out where they fit in a real mechanic’s workflow If you’re a DIYer or just starting to build your tool collection, this might be the kind of setup that saves you from buying tools you don’t actually need. As always, I’ll walk you through everything step-by-step and give you my honest take based on how these perform in the real world.

About This Video

Are you guys ready to get some tools dirty? I’m Brian from How to Automotive, and in this video I put Milwaukee’s brand-new M12 Fuel subcompact impacts to work the way I actually use tools in the shop—real fasteners, real tight spaces, and real results. I’m not reading off spec sheets here. I’m running both the 1/4” and 3/8” drive subcompact impacts through interior work, under-vehicle work, and engine bay stuff to see where they shine and where they tap out. What jumped out right away is how small and easy to handle these things are—barely the size of my hand—so they’re perfect when you’re stuffed up under a dash dropping a steering column, or stretched out under a vehicle trying not to wear transmission fluid. I also show the variable speed trigger control while loosening and tightening, and I put them on jobs like dropping a transmission pan, pulling valve body bolts, removing ignition coil bolts, taking a tie-rod nut off, and even getting into tight spots like mounting a vise. And yeah, I pushed it a bit—like trying hub bearing fasteners without pre-loosening them. It surprised me. If you’re a DIYer or building out your tool lineup, this video will help you see if a subcompact impact can cover more of your day-to-day than you’d expect.
