Excel charts and graphs are one of the fastest ways to make your spreadsheet actually tell a story, and in this video I walk you through the exact steps I use to build them. I start with a simple movie tracker worksheet and show you how to highlight the right data range, go to Insert, and use Recommended Charts to create a graph in seconds. Then I show how to move and resize the chart, rename the chart title, and understand how the chart stays linked to your table—so when you change numbers, the chart updates instantly. After that, I go into the controls that make your charts more useful. I show you how to turn chart elements on and off (titles, labels, and my favorite: adding a trend line), and how to filter chart data with the funnel icon so you can focus on specific months like summer. Then I show how to change the chart type when a line chart isn’t the best fit—switching to column and bar charts to make multi-category data easier to read. Finally, I use Select Data to include multiple categories (and remove the total so it doesn’t skew things), then clean everything up with chart styles and colors so it looks more professional.
