Standing Desk for Laptops - Two 2x4 Challenge from The Modern Maker Podcast

This standing desk for laptops was made using only two 2x4 pieces of lumber. This standing desk is adjustable for the optimal ergonomic setup for each user. The desk was inspired by a very warped 2x4 - the kind we call a "hockey stick" at the lumber yard when sorting through the pile (Canadian reference). The dramatic curve was used as the upright to the standing desk. It was ripped in half for the top third to allow for the height adjustment. The feet of the stand were assembled with finger joints for strength. The upright was joined to the feet using a bridle joint for strength. The top was made of half inch slats in a mitred frame, attached to the upright. This was a challenging design and build, given that construction lumber often warps after it is cut due to the tension and moisture in the wood - not ideal for furniture making.
