How to you add a dishwasher to an old kitchen and not make it look like a dishwasher? The solution is a custom made panel on a panel-ready dishwasher. Scott shows how he designs and builds a false cabinet door panel for a Bosch panel-ready dishwasher (link below) for a kitchen in our 125 year old home. Subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@HomeImprovementWoodworking?sub_confirmation=1 The first challenge is finding a suitable location for the dishwasher, but that is easy because it looks like there was a dishwasher in this kitchen before based on the plumbing, the cabinet structure, and the wear on the floor. The second challenge is changing the plumbing to add a dishwasher drain and a new hot water valve, but those are pretty straightforward changes if you're experienced at renovating and plumbing. The next step is to install the panel-ready dishwasher by hooking up the power, water, and drain line. The woodworking part of this project is designing a custom panel for the dishwasher that matches the existing cabinets that were likely built in the 1950's or 1960's. Panel-ready dishwashers are designed to hold a cabinet panel on the front - the springs in the door are heavy to accommodate the weight of the cabinet panel. They also have special hardware for mounting the panel on the dishwasher door. Scott starts with a 3/4 inch panel as the base and then builds false doors that match the existing cabinets. He reuses the door pulls and hinges for a seamless look. The panel is primed and painted to match the rest of the kitchen and the results turned out great!
