The Miter Saw is one of the most frequently used tools in my workshop. It surprises me when I talk to people who aren't familiar with a miter saw. I show how a miter saw is used and then show you what features to shop for when looking to buy your first miter saw. A less expensive version of the miter saw is the chop saw. It is less expensive but it has a limited cutting distance compared to sliding compound miter saws. A typical miter saw will cross cut a board over 11 inches wide. Miter saws have traditionally been corded tools, but in recent years, innovation has lead to cordless miter saws. The newest saws use lithium batteries and with brushless motors, which have significantly increased the run time between charges.
