Everybody’s heard it by now: you can use the Apple AirPods Pro 2 as hearing aids. But the big question is how you actually set them up correctly so they’re amplifying the sounds you struggle with (and not just blasting everything). In this video I walk you step-by-step through connecting the AirPods to your iPhone, turning the hearing aid feature on, and then telling your phone what your hearing loss actually is. I show you the two ways to do it. First, you can take Apple’s hearing test right on the iPhone. I’ll be honest—this is the most thorough hearing test I’ve ever taken on a phone app, and it feels way closer to what we do in a sound booth than most OTC “quick tests.” Second, I show you how to manually enter an audiogram (Costco, ENT, Beltone, Miracle-Ear, etc.). I even use a more complicated example with masked and unmasked thresholds (X’s, O’s, squares, triangles) so you can follow along no matter what your chart looks like. At the end, I give you my quick take: these are fantastic “hearing aids” for the money with amazing sound quality and noise cancellation, but they’re limited by amplification and battery life.
