In this FL Studio Live Cookup #3, I’m building a melodic trap type beat from scratch and talking through the whole mindset while I’m working. I start with the core melody, then I add drums and little ear-candy like a rim shot to make the groove feel finished. I’m also answering questions from chat about what DAW to use, what VSTs I like, and how I approach making beats even without knowing music theory like that. I keep it real about my workflow: FL Studio is the easiest to start on in my opinion because you can do everything in one place—beats, songs, mixing, even mastering. For sounds, I’m using Electra in this session, and I’m telling y’all straight up Arcade is one of my favorites for quick inspiration. I also talk about Omni being the goat, and how I’ll scrap a counter melody if it’s not “moving my spirit” and keep it simple so the beat stays clean. After the idea is there, I go into quick mixing—balancing levels, checking drum placement, fixing stuff like unwanted reverb on a clap, and making sure I save properly so I don’t lose the project. Then we lock in the key (E minor) and I run the beat back before moving on to the next one.
