In this video I break down how I made an OT7 Quanny Philly drill type beat in FL Studio, and it really ain’t that crazy—it’s more about layering the melody and then putting the right drums on it. I start by showing the full beat, then I walk you through the main sound choices: an Electra pad sitting real low in the background, cinematic violins doing most of the heavy lifting, and an Arcade vocal texture to add that distant vibe. After that I add a dark piano (my VST piano V2) to set the mood and give it that “hit” before the drums even come in. Then I get into the mix choices that actually matter for this style. I’m mainly EQ’ing the melodies to get the low end out the way so the Spinz 808 can knock without clashing—hard cuts around the lows on most stuff, and a softer roll-off on the Arcade vocal with some reverb/delay for space. For the drums, I explain the Philly/OT7 feel: I didn’t even use hi-hats, just open hats, that signature snare, and a couple key ear-candy sounds like the laser (panned left/right for movement) and a subtle one-shot perk to keep it from feeling empty. The goal is dark drill mood, but still prioritizing drums so the artist can do their thing.
