In this video I tested six popular pairs of headphones for drummers and ranked them by the stuff that actually matters behind a kit: noise isolation, sound quality, comfort, design/build quality, and value for money. Headphones are such a solid monitoring option because they’re easy to throw on and off, they work for both acoustic and electronic drums, and they’ll still protect your ears really well (even if they won’t isolate quite like custom molded in-ears). I start with the most affordable options and work up to the premium picks so you can see exactly what you gain as the price increases. On the budget end, the Behringer DH100 genuinely impressed me for comfort and overall capability for the money. The Alesis DRP100 offers better-than-expected isolation for the price, but the non-adjustable headband made the fit a bit loose on my head. In the mid range, the Vic Firth SIH3 is a classic for a reason—some of the best isolation I tested, solid sound with a nice bass hit, but they do clamp pretty tight over long sessions. For sound quality and comfort, the Sennheiser HD280 Pro is excellent, but isolation was the weakest in my real-world test. My favorite premium “drummer-first” option is the Beyerdynamic DT770M for its balanced punchy sound, excellent isolation, and all-day comfort. The Zildjian ALCHEM-E is a feature-packed hybrid with ANC and app tuning, but it’s not essential strictly for drumming at that price.
