In this video I build a quick hard rock/metal tone in the Neural DSP Quad Cortex, and the whole point is to show how fast the QC can get you to something actually usable. I’m in Cortex Control, using an SG tuned to Drop C, and I start simple: noise gate on (because yeah… it’ll get noisy if I don’t), then I grab a Dual Rectifier Modern-style amp and pair it with a Rectifier “all purpose” cab IR—just something I already know works so I’m not chasing my tail. From there it’s basic, real-world dialing: I bump the gain to around 6, pull the mids down a touch (it was getting a little boxy to my ear), and push the treble up because I like a bit of “trouble” in the tone. To tighten it up, I throw an overdrive in front—this Vural Ray (basically a higher-end Tube Screamer vibe)—and I back the drive down to around 1.4 so it’s doing the tightening thing, not adding a bunch of extra fuzz. The takeaway is simple: in under five minutes I’ve got a solid rock/metal patch that would work live or in a recording session, and that’s where the Quad Cortex really shines—quick, easy, and very usable without endless tinkering.
