About This Video

In this video I’m doing a men’s perm using brick red rods, and I take you through the full process from the prep to the final rinse. My client came in with a cut from somewhere else, so first thing I do is trim the top and make it even. This part matters a lot because if the hair’s uneven, getting clean sections into the rods can be a tough one and you’ll end up with hair slipping out or curls coming out inconsistent. After that I section the hair (I like starting from the back and working my way right to left), comb each section through, and use end papers to keep the ends controlled so everything sits properly on the rod. I roll the rods back for a bit more volume, then protect the hairline with Vaseline and use folded kitchen roll as a band to stop solution dripping. I saturate every rod with the perm solution (I used the Goldwell Topform kit), cap it and leave it for a full hour for tight curls (no heat on this one), rinse, then neutralise for 10 minutes. Biggest takeaway: rinse properly and don’t wash or get it wet for 2 days so the curl sets right and you get the best result.
