In this transformation I’ve got my boy Miles in the chair, and it’s been three years since his last perm. He’s been growing his hair out into a man bun, braiding it, doing all of that—but he decided it’s time to switch it up and go back to curls. So in this video I take him from straight hair to tight curls with a clean mid fade on the sides, plus a little C and a sharp shape up to finish it properly. I show you my perm process from start to finish: rods in first, then I protect the hairline with Vaseline because the solution is harsh and you don’t want it sitting on the skin. I also stopped using bandanas—now I use folded kitchen roll as a wrap around the head to catch any drips, and it works way better. After a lot of experimenting, I’m using the perm kit I rate as the best for tight curls right now (perm solution + neutraliser): one hour with the solution, rinse, then 15 minutes with neutraliser and rinse again.
