In this video I’m doing an insane haircut and perm transformation: tight curls on top with a clean taper fade. I start by clipping up the hair that’s long enough to perm (I kept it as low as possible like my client wanted), then I focus on fading as little hair as I can so the curls can drop nicely into the fade. I go in with my 2 guard open to remove bulk, set my first guideline with my Slimline Pros in a slight curve so the taper pops, then I work my way up using lever control, half-blade flicking, and corner work to knock out dark spots without pushing the fade too high. After the fade and shape up (tap and pull away—especially around the ear, don’t dig in), I trim the top just a little and move into the perm tutorial. Sectioning is everything if you want a tight perm, so I work in smaller sections, keep the hair wet, use end papers to catch every hair, and roll back towards the roots so the curls stand up and look natural. I apply vaseline around the hairline, fully saturate every rod with solution, cap it for an hour, rinse, then neutralise for 10 minutes to lock the curls in. Final tip: don’t wash or get it wet for 2 days—my perms usually last around 4 months minimum and just loosen over time.
